• What was your first contact with paragliding?

My first contact with paragliding emerged during the challenging times of the COVID pandemic. My mom often expressed her frustration about the lockdown, yearning for adventure and a break from the boredom. To uplift her spirits, I decided to take her on a tandem flight, hoping to offer a taste of freedom and excitement amidst the restrictions. As we soared through the skies, I was captivated by the exhilarating sensation of gliding with the wind. It was a transformative experience that ignited a passion within me. Just a week later, I found myself in Turkey, determined to pursue my APPI license. That first tandem flight was not just a moment of escape; it was the beginning of an incredible journey into the world of flight that I now hold dear.

• What is your best flight so far?

One of my most exhilarating flights occurred above the breathtaking landscapes of Pamukkale, Turkey, where I performed my first-ever rollover with my AYA 2 wing. As I ascended from a hot air balloon at an impressive altitude of 1600 meters, the beauty of a stunning sunrise unfolded before my eyes. The golden rays of the sunbathed the cotton-castle terraces in warm hues, creating a magical backdrop that felt almost surreal. In that moment, I felt a rush of adrenaline mixed with the serene beauty surrounding me. The stunning view, combined with the performance of my wing, instilled me with great confidence and assurance as I prepared to execute the rollover. This was not just a technical achievement; it was a liberating experience that solidified my passion for flight and created an unforgettable memory that I will cherish forever.

• How long have you been flying and where do you fly the most?

Since obtaining my paragliding license in the stunning skies of Oludeniz, Turkey, in May 2022, I've been utterly captivated by the thrill of flight and haven't looked back. While Hong Kong is my primary playground, each takeoff is a new adventure ushered in by the vibrant landscapes of China, Vietnam, and Spain. The journey of mastery is ongoing; I've completed an advanced SIV course in Chengdu, embraced the challenge of a cross-country camp in Thailand where I soared beyond the 100km mark for the first time, and delved into the exhilarating world of acrobatics back where it all began in Oludeniz. I'm looking forward to flying in all other fascinating sites in the world.

• What is the most valuable lesson you've learned during your paragliding career?

The most valuable lesson I've learned during my paragliding career is the critical importance of knowing your limits and risk management. Paragliding is an exhilarating sport, but it demands a keen awareness of one's own capabilities and the inherent risks involved. Understanding your limits means acknowledging when conditions are beyond your skill level or when you're too fatigued to make safe decisions. This self-awareness is crucial; pushing beyond can lead to dangerous situations. It's not just about skill; it's about survival and ensuring you can fly another day. Risk management is the companion to knowing your limits. This involves thoroughly assessing weather conditions, equipment checks and understanding the terrain. It's about making informed decisions before and during flights. Keeping a risk management mindset helps in staying grounded, rather than being swept away by the thrill of the sport. Together, these lessons have reinforced the importance of respect for me, for the equipment, and for nature. Paragliding has taught me that real wisdom is in knowing when to fly and when to walk away, a principle that transcends the sport and applies to life itself.
